How To Meditate Anywhere To Relax A Little More

Unconditional love helps process thoughts and feelings, whether it's coming from a friend or yourself. Meditation can be used as a self-love practice, and help cultivate unconditional love for yourself and others. Meditate to bolster a healthy, inner communication and relationship. There are so many resources out there like HeadSpace, YouTube, and this blog for you to find a meditation that suits you.

What to do

  1. You want to get comfortable to a point you won’t have to engage your muscles but don't discount this meditation if you're waiting in line

  2. Minimize distractions- Silence the phone, and make the intention to focus. Set a timer for 5 minutes. Don’t feel like you have to do five minutes if you’ve never sat with yourself before. Just start off with one or 2 minutes, fully pay attention to the experience, and go from there.

  3. Connect with the body by focusing on your breathe at your lower abdomen. Use counts of 4 to work with your breath. Inhale-2-3-4, exhale-2-3-4. Use your breathe to work through any tension in the body. Try starting from the top of the head and move down to the toes.

  1. As thoughts come up visualize a sky and a bird flying. In your minds' eye point to the bird as it flies across your line of vision, and connect your thoughts to the passing bird. It’s nice to name the thought and then let it pass to gently redirect your attention back to breathing from the lower abdomen. The point is not to get caught up in the thought or emotion. The point is to let it all go for the time you allotted yourself so you can relax and recover.

Example

You can do this anywhere because all it really requires you to focus on breathing from your lower abdomen. There are always going to be distractions, whether it’s your own thoughts or kids screaming while you’re meditating on a rock in the park. Use distractions as a source of mental strength training for focus. Being able to focus can really come in handy when we are stressed, upset, or in a challenging situation because focusing on your goal and purpose helps remove unnecessary conflict.
